Are you new to the 380 community?
Here are some helpful tips to get to get started!

Welcome to the 380 Corridor!

We know moving to a new city can be tough. Here’s some information that we hope you’ll find helpful in your move to the 380 Corridor Community!

Schools

The 380 Corridor Community is unique in that we are home five different schools within a 6 mile radius (Aubrey ISD, Denton ISD, Frisco ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Prosper ISD). Each school district is an independent administrative body responsible for running its own schools, rather than by being directly governed by municipal or county governments. Each independent school district (ISD) starts at different times in August and end in May the following year. The ISDs range in student population size, demographics, and scholastic emphases. For more about each district, please click the district name below.

As a state, Texas allows each ISD to operate under “open enrollment” if it chooses allowing families to choose which school their child goes to within their home ISD. Some ISDs (e.g. Frisco ISD) have "open enrollment" for families living outside of district boundaries. This means you have options:

  1. You can find out what your “assigned” school is within your designated ISD. Your assigned school is the one that has to allow you to attend and you don’t need a formal process of application. It can be tough to find out what your assigned school is so you can try and plug in your address at https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/general-information/school-district-locator, or you can call the school district and ask them.

  2. If you want to attend a public or charter school (e.g. Founders Classical Academy) that is not your assigned school, you can apply for any school you like but you'll have to contact them about their out-of-district transfer process. Some ISDs allow and may have a waiting list while others may not allow it at all.

When it comes to schools, there are a lot of options. Charter schools and academies often have uniforms, run a more classic program with a focus on reading and writing, and higher academic expectations. The larger public schools have to compete for students and so they often have great programming and options that the smaller academies and charter schools cannot provide (i.e. UIL). The key for any school is to research and apply early for the following school year. Otherwise, waitlists develop.

The closest private Christian school is Legacy Christian Academy, to which a Texas School Voucher may be utilized.

Weather

Texas has five seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Construction, so get ready! Also, when you told your family and friends you were packing up to move to Texas, did anyone say how unpredictable the weather was going to be? For the most part, the weather is hot, not dry heat like in Arizona but still hot. We do have winters with a rare occasion of snow but icy conditions are pretty common. There are also rainy seasons but sometimes the rain just does what it wants to do and we like it because it cools things down which you'll come to realize is a blessing. Lastly, hail storms and tornadoes are fairly common in North Texas. Welcome!
